Private horse riding lesson at K&J Horse Boarding.
Private Riding Lessons

Riding Lessons Built Around the Rider

Good riding starts with good horsemanship. Our private lessons focus on safety, confidence, balance, communication and understanding the horse — both on the ground and in the saddle.

Riders don't have to fit into a predetermined program. Lessons can be adapted for beginners, intermediate riders, experienced riders, or people returning to horses after time away.

Lessons are currently available by inquiry. Tell us about the rider and what you're hoping to accomplish. We'll help determine which session length and type of instruction makes the most sense.
Private Lesson Pricing

Choose the Time That Fits Your Goals

Session length determines the price. Instruction is tailored to the rider's experience and goals.

Focused Session
1 Hour
$80
A focused private session for riders with some horse experience, refreshers, groundwork or working on a particular skill.
Extended Horsemanship
2 Hours
$150
Best for new riders, confidence building, more detailed horsemanship, groundwork, or riders who want additional time in the saddle.

Your Lesson Starts When You Start Working With the Horse

Catching, grooming, brushing, saddling, bridling, untacking and caring for the horse afterward are all part of the lesson. These aren't chores we rush through before the "real" lesson begins — they're an important part of becoming a capable horse person. If you're hoping for plenty of time in the saddle as well, we recommend choosing a 90-minute or 2-hour session.

Lessons Tailored to You

Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced

Your experience level changes what we work on — not what your time is worth.

1

Beginner

Safe handling, grooming, tacking, mounting, balance, steering, stopping, confidence and fundamental riding skills.

2

Intermediate

Improve position, transitions, control, independence, confidence and clearer communication with the horse.

3

Advanced / Focused Coaching

More specific riding goals, refinement, groundwork, problem solving and focused work for experienced riders.

Your Horse Is Welcome Too

Bring Your Own Horse

If you already own a horse, you're welcome to inquire about taking your lesson with your own horse.

Standard lesson pricing is the same. The focus simply shifts to helping you improve your riding, communication and confidence with the horse you actually ride at home.

If you're dealing with a more specific behavioral or training issue, our Horse & Rider Coaching sessions may be a better fit.

No Riding Required

Just Want Some Horse Time?

You don't have to take a riding lesson to enjoy being around horses.

Horse Time is a relaxed, hands-on option for anyone who simply wants to spend time with a horse — grooming, brushing, learning basic handling, leading, understanding horse behavior and enjoying some quiet horse company.

It's a great option for nervous beginners, horse-loving kids or adults, or anyone who loves horses but isn't interested in riding.

Need Help With Your Own Horse?

Horse & Rider Coaching / Assisted Training

If the issue goes beyond a normal riding lesson, we can also work with you and your own horse on specific problems.

Ground manners, confidence, responsiveness, communication problems, riding issues and training gaps can often be worked through more effectively when the owner stays involved in the process.

These sessions are designed as assisted training: we can demonstrate and work directly with the horse when appropriate, then help you learn how to continue the work yourself.
